Food for healthy hair

New York nutritionist Lisa Drayer says, “Just like every other part of your body, cells and processes that support strong, vibrant hair depend on a balanced diet.”

It can take time to observe changes in one’s hair than in the skin. The nutrients one eats today can help make the hair follicle strong from where each strand of hair grows.

Hair can equally get damaged due to hormonal imbalances, smoking and not proper sleep. There is no magic treatment that can make up for these concerns.

Healthy Hair

If one eats a balanced and protein-rich diet that concentrates on the following foods, any individual would find good positive changes in hair.

1. Salmon

Salmon is rich in vitamin D and protein and both are good for strong hair as it contains the omega-3 fatty acids. Omega-3s can also be found in cell membranes in the skin of one’s also in the scalp which keeps the scalp and hair hydrated. One can also have herring, sardines, mackerel or avocado, pumpkin seeds.

2. Walnuts

Walnuts have considerable amount of omega-3 fatty acids being also rich in vitamin E and biotin thus helping protect the cells from damage of DNA. Walnuts also contain copper, a mineral which greatly helps in keeping hair colour rich and lustrous. Walnut oil can also be used in salad dressing.

3. Sweet Potatoes

Sweet potatoes are a rich source of antioxidant beta carotene turned into vitamin A. Even Carrots, mangoes, pumpkin, and apricots can surely be consumed for good results.

4. Eggs

Eggs are a good source of protein, loaded with four key minerals: selenium, zinc, iron and sulfur. Iron is very important as it helps cells take oxygen to the hair follicles and little iron is an important reason for hair loss, especially in women.

5. Spinach

The beta carotene, iron, folate, and vitamin C in spinach helps hair follicles stay healthy and oils of the scalp circulating.

6. Lentils

Legumes have iron, protein, and biotin and zinc it a good staple for vegetarian. Kidney beans and soybeans can be added to salad and soups.

7. Blueberries

It is difficult to top blueberry, being a super nutrient. Vitamin C present in blueberry is crucial for scalp circulation and supports the small blood vessels that which feeds the follicles.
